About Ms. Henry
My favorite things outside of counseling...
My absolute favorite thing to do is spend time with my family and close friends. Family is everything and I am blessed to have my fiancé, boys (ages 7 & 12) and fur babies (Que, Beauty and Beast) here in Charlotte with me. Next, in line would have to be traveling! I love visiting parts of the world, seeing other cultures and eating great food. I have traveled to London, Paris, Hawaii, Jamaica, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Puerto Rico thus far. I also love flowers and gardening. My favorites are hydrangeas (I have a yard full of these), peonies and roses. I enjoy bringing the outdoors in by designing floral arrangements for my home and events. I love decorating and attention to details. My favorite colors are navy blue, red and kelly green. My favorite team is the Baltimore Ravens and I love my Alma Mater, Howard University! Go Bisons!! |
A little about me...
I was born in Chicago, Illinois and lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL prior to moving to Maryland. I spent most of my adolescent years growing up in Baltimore. I attended Howard University for my undergraduate studies and began teaching middle school students in inner city Baltimore shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attack in 2001. My class had 4 teachers prior to me that quit and they were determined to run me out of the building too. I quickly learned that my students really needed someone who cared about them. Once they truly knew that I cared and wasn't going to give up, the dynamics of negative student behavior turned positive. My students knew that I was there for them and I became their confidant, counselor and teacher. That experience lead me to pursue my Master's degree in Education & Human Development/School Counseling from The George Washington University. After graduation I accepted an offer as a School Counselor at a charter school that was opening on Howard University's campus. I was eager and ecstatic to return to my alma mater to fill my role as a key player to the development and opening of the elaborate middle school focusing on math and science. I resigned from my position as Director of School Counseling at HU (MS)2 to pursue new beginnings in Charlotte, NC. I have been a School Counselor at the Creek since November of 2010 and look forward to sharing responsibilities of the School Counselor program with Ms. Faison-Harris. With 15 years of experience as an educator, advocacy and customer service are key. I am flexible and offer a positive, energetic, and dynamic attitude with a forward thinking approach to maintaining quality academic standards and supporting the whole child. |
